M47 Chevalier
Tank ID 69441
Vehicle description
Wargaming Tankopedia
A project for major modernization project of the M47, which was in service with the French army. The main goal was to keep the vehicle up to date until enough AMX 30 tanks were produced. The design called for installing a new gun, enhancing the fire-control system, strengthening the armor, mounting a bulldozer blade and external fuel tanks, as well as reducing the crew—the driver's assistant's position was replaced by an ammunition rack. However, the AMX 30 was adopted faster than expected, and the M47 modernization turned out to be outdated for the French army. The vehicle was also planned for export but did not receive interest. One prototype with a new gun was built to demonstrate the possibilities of rearmament; however, its further history is unknown.
